Agriculture Organization of South Khorasan has defined this project to identify the areas that are competent for aquaculture development and introduce the existing capacities of them. This project has been defined for the feasibility study for warm and cold water fish cultivation in freshwaters and saline waters of the province. In this regard, Asarab Consulting Engineers Co. investigated surface water and ground water resources of the province including rivers, springs and wells, which are quantitatively and qualitatively analysed using statistical methods to evaluate the possibility of aquaculture in the region according to available water quantity and quality. The results of these statistical surveys were analysed in the GIS and, finally map of appropriate spatial alternatives was presented.

In order to identify the sources of saline and fresh water in the province and the feasibility of raising warm and cold water fishes, the following measures were taken:

• Sampling of surface and ground water resources
• Determining the quantitative and qualitative status of the province’s water resources
• Providing suitable aquaculture options based on the existing environmental situation
